Screenlets – Desktop applications, widgets and screen addons for openSUSE

Screenlets are small owner-drawn applications (written in Python) that can be described as “the virtual representation of things lying/standing around on your desk”. Sticknotes, clocks, rulers, youtube, gmail and more. Screenlets are free opensource software released under GPL License. Screenlets use GTK2 & Cairo for drawing and windowing. The goal of the Screenlets base-classes is to simplify the creation of fully themeable mini-apps that each solve basic desktop-work-related needs and generally improve the usability and eye-candy of the modern composited Linux-desktop.

Screenlets can be installed with the 1-click installs available for openSUSE 11.0 and 10.3

Once you click this link, it will download the YMP file and automatically starts the YaST Package Manager to add the repositories and download and install Screenlets and relevant dependencies.

Click “Next” in the Screenlets installation Welcome Screen

Click “Next” in the summary screen for Screenlets.

Once installed is completed, click “Finish” to complete the installation.

Screenlets will be found under Utilities – More Programs. Click on Screenlets to start the software.

When you start Screenlets for the first time, Screenlets will prompt to you automatically create a new autostart directory. Click Yes to continue and there you should find Screenlets ready for you to select and use the various screenlets.

Select from the available screenlets and click “Launch/Add”. This will add it to the screen. You can drag and drop it whereever you want it on the screen.

To install a new Screenlet, SuperKaramba Theme, Convert Web Widget or a web application click the “Install” button. Click “Install Theme” to install a new theme.

Click “Get more Screenlets” to download more screenlets.
