ManDVD is a free opensource GUI based KDE DVD Authoring software to create DVDs from video files from the Hard Disk. ManDVD helps create, customize the DVD menus including extracting image from videos, manage subtitles, define chapters, adding video effects. With ManDVD, you can reencode audio with Ac3 to ensure that most of the DVD players can play sound from the DVD you create.
ManDVD is simple and easy to use and a has nice GUI. The project seems to have hit road blocks but whats in place is good enough to use by any of us.
Install ManDVD
Before proceeding to install, we need to install mjpegtools and its devels package. Install the packages as follows:
opensuse11:~ # yast2 -i mjpegtools mjpegtools-devel
Now, to install ManDVD, click this 1-click installer from Packman supported on openSUSE 11.1/11.0/10.3/10.2

This should download the YMP file and automatically launch the YaST package manager to add the required Repositories and download and install ManDVD and theĀ dependencies. Click next on the ManDVD installation screen and Next again on the installation proposal window. This should start adding the required repositories, download and install ManDVD and its required dependencies. Click Finish when the installation completes successfully.
This should install ManDVD under “Applications – Multimedia – CD/DVD Burning“. Click ManDVD to launch the software for the first time and set the lanuage. Set the destination folder and the Video Standard (PAL or NTSC) and video size and click Confirm.
Now, click “Add a video to your project ” button to choose and select videos from the disk. The video files supported are MPG,MPEG,AVI & VOB. Choose as many videos as your DVD size permits. You may also choose to create a Slide show. You can customize by defining chapters managing subtitles, adding video effects or cutting part of the film. You may choose to add an introduction video to the DVD. Click next when done.
Create and customize your menu. You can set the background to be a simply plain coloured or a image background or even an animated background. Add a sound track as well to make it that extra special. Once done, click Next
In here, select you menu items, these are the videos that needs to feature in the menu, you can again choose to have a picture for each of the menu item or a simple text based title. Customize as required and click Next.
In the final screen you can choose to reencode the audio using AC3 sound and de-interlace the video to make the DVD play on most of the DVD players. Once ready, click Generate DVD Structure. This should generate the DVD for you and finally, you can choose to watch the dvd, Burn the DVD or make an ISO image as required and you now have your DVD ready.
Should there be any problem, click show console for the console messages to troubleshoot the problem.
